ballroom & Latin dance

Taught by award winning ballroom dancers Polina Kirillova and Sergei Slussky. Sergei and Polina have taught and performed extensively through their native Russia, Europe and the U.S. before opening the American Ballroom Dance Academy in Portland. Certified to teach by the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, Polina and Sergei’s knowledge, experience, attention to detail, style, grace and humor make this a fun and rewarding class! We offer classes for beginners through advanced ballroom dancers. Classes and private lessons run hourly Tuesday afternoons & evenings 3-10 pm (call for details on class times). BELLY DANCING

BONES FOR LIFE® Outsmarting Osteoporosis

An awareness based movement program designed to help you cultivate optimal alignment and the ability to move well without causing stress in joints. Participants report decreased aches and pains, improved flexibilty and posture and increased ability to move with ease, confidence and enjoyment. Wednesdays 5:30-6:30pm. BREATH IN: A GROUP BREATH SESSION

A work-out utilizing your breath as a tool for release and transformation with physical, emotional, mental and spiritual benefits. Breath in: enhance your life. Breath out: release what no longer serves you. Group session 6-8 pm, third Friday monthly. Call instructor Paula Easton 207-583-6603.

CHILDREN’S CREATIVE MOVEMENT

Children have an innate attraction to music and movement. Dancer and early childhood educator, Becci Webb, utilizes and promotes this natural interest through exposure to fun children’s music, games, dance and other enriching activities.
Watch Me Move! Boys and girls ages 18 months and older with a parent or caregiver. Thursdays, 10-10:45 am. 6 week sessions start October 20.  Call Nan Brett at The Ballroom for details.

DANCE (Ballet, Jazz, Modern & Tap)

Our distinctive dance technique classes for children, teens & adults feature instruction with highly trained professional performing artists and teachers. Our dance faculty includes Maine State Ballet soloist Juliette Lauzier (her thirteenth year with us!); Jazz and Modern dancer Erin Hamlin; Maine State Ballet soloist Becci Webb and Ballet, Jazz & Tap dancer McKinley Page.  Our 2011-2012 season of Ballet, Jazz, Modern & Tap classes for children, teens & adults starts Monday, September 12. FITNESS TRAINING

Personal attention is the heart of this practice featuring a holistic approach to functional strength, flexibility, balance & coordination training with a focus on the CORE. Taught by Nan Brett, dancer, ACE Certified Fitness Instructor, SCW Certified Pilates Instructor and the director of THE BALLROOM. Group Core Fusion classes Monday & Wednesday mornings 9-10:20. HULA HOOP DANCE

Hula Loops (ages 7-12): Mondays, 4:30-5:30 starting September 19. This fun and creative class is sure to take children into a whole new world of dance! Hoop dancer Nettie Gentempo will instruct children in the basics of hooping as well as teaching them more advanced tricks and movements-all the while dancing to the wonderful rhythms of music! Hula Hoop Dance (teen/adult): Mondays 5:30-6:30. 6 week sessions start September 19. All of the fun of our Hula loops class but designed for adults! Even if you have never successfully hula hooped before, this creative class will help you learn the basics of hooping as well as more advanced dance movements. A great, fun workout! NIA

On a very basic level Nia is a dance workout. A fun, funky, blissful and creative workout that will leave you energized. Tuesdays 5:30pm and Thursdays 8:45am. YOGA

Iyengar Yoga with Scott Davis. Scott Davis earned his Yoga teacher certification from the Iyengar Institute of San Francisco in 1995 and studied in India with Yoga master B.K.S. Iyengar in 1998. In 2001 Scott presented at the "Spirituality and Social Work" national conference in Washington D.C. on using Yoga to alleviate mental health symptoms. Since 2001 Scott has continued his own Yoga practice while pursuing a carer as a clinical social worker. ZUMBA

A fitness-dance workout set to hot Latin music. It’s fun! It’s exercise! It’s “exercise in disguise”! Taught by Dinah Aldrich certified Zumba instructor. Classes Saturdays & Tuesdays 9:OOam .
